John Thompson was called by the church to serve as Senior Interim Pastor as of March 2018. As of July 1, 2019, Pastor John was called to serve as our full-time Senior Pastor. As a native of Franklin County, Virginia, he loves the area and the people.
He has over three decades of church leadership experience involving pastoring, evangelism, and missions. He was instrumental in planting churches in Africa. He further led teams in Germany to remodel a closed communist elementary school which now houses a church with many ministries and apartments to assist in Church budget. He also worked in the Dominican Republic with a missions team to build a retreat for young woman rescues from prostitution.
John holds a PHD in Theology and an MBA. He believes in being a lifelong learner and encourages others to further and better themselves.
His wife of over 40 years, Sherry, works along beside him in ministry. They have three children: Christa, Matthew and wife, Janie, and Mark and wife, Betsy. They also have nine grandchildren ranging from ages of a couple of months to 18 years old. He loves spending time with his family and values family time.
John feels a call to care for the congregation and introduce vision with for sharing the Gospel to those who have not yet met Christ. His passion is preaching and teaching the Gospel.
