God Sustains You And Me

God Sustains You and Me

The rain and the snow come…water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater. (Isaiah 55:10)
The Bible teaches that Garden long as it stands the universe around us, but also sustained you need. He himself gifts for all mankind life and breath and everything…….”in him we live and move and have our being” Acts 18: 25,28 and he supplies our daily food. 2 Corinthians 9:10 Our times are in his hand. Psalm 31:15
Every breath we breathe is a gift from God; every bite of food we eat is given from his hand; every day we live is determined by him. He has not left is to our own devices or whims of nature or the malevolent acts of other people. No! He constantly sustains, provides for, and cares for us every moment of every day. Did your car breakdown when you could least afford the repairs? Did you miss an important meeting because the plane you were to fly in developed mechanical problems? The God who controls the stars in their courses also controls nuts and bolts and everything on your car and on the plane you were to fly in.
When I was an infant I had a bad case of measles. The virus apparently settled in my ass and in my right ear leaving me with monocular vision and deafness in that ear.
Was God in control of that virus, or was I simply the victim of a chance childhood disease? Gods moment by moment sustaining of his universe and everything in it leaves me no choice but to except that the virus was indeed under his controlling hand. God was not looking the other way when that virus settled in the nerve endings of my ear and the muscles of my eyes. If we are to trust God we must learn to see that he is continuously at work in every aspect and every moment of our lives.
Writes Jerry Bridges in Trusting God
To say that God is in control is not to say that He causes everything. God has given choice to all His created beings. We know that Satan and 1/3 of the angels chose to rebel. We know that Adam and Eve chose to eat the forbidden fruit. We know we too have choices and sometimes we make poor ones. Whatever has caused this virus and escalated its spread, we know that choices contributed to it. Now the question is where is God in all this? Has He socially distanced Himself from us? Is He allowing us the struggle and battle fear alone? Will He intervene?
I’ve discovered that the deepest level with a God is trust. I remember when I was young in the Lord, I thought I could by faith influence the outcome for everything. What arrogance and how foolish. Walking through some difficult times has brought me to this incredible place of trust. Learning that a God is my Heavenly Father who loves without limits and who never leaves me to face life and battles alone, has been the most liberating revelation I’ve ever received. This doesn’t mean I don’t pray or make my requests known to God. This doesn’t mean I treat life as though fate or the cosmos determines my circumstances. No, it means that like any child, I come to my Father and tell Him what I need of want. Like that child, I often try to demand. But my Father who loves me will only answer with what’s best for me. I’ve lived long enough to know that my childish demands aren’t always what’s best. So here’s what I do. I bring my needs to God who already knows what they are and place them in His care and then trust Him with the outcome. “Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7
